The Department of Social Services (the department) is responsible for a diverse range of policies, payments, programs, and services that improve the wellbeing of individuals and families in Australia.
The department funds services and payments that assist families, children, and older people, including children and young people within and leaving out-of-home care.
CREATE Foundation has contributed to the department’s work on a number of the Actions in the First Action Plans of Safe and Supported: the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021-2031, aimed at improving the outcomes for children and young people with a lived care experience.

DCP protects, cares for, and empowers children and young people at risk and in care. We do this by working together with our key partners.
In partnership with CREATE Foundation, we are wanting to hear directly from more children and young people with a care experience, to identify further opportunities and pathways for housing, study, work and enabling children and young people in care to connect with their siblings as a priority.
Life Without Barriers is one of Australia’s largest social purpose, not-for-profit organisations dedicated to changing people’s lives for the better. For nearly 30 years, Life Without Barriers has been supporting the most vulnerable in our communities. Last Financial Year, Life Without Barriers supported 23,740 people across Australia providing foster care, disability, mental health, aged care and other services to those that needed help. In 2023, Life Without Barriers’ Child, Youth and Family team walked alongside 5148 children, young people and families to help provide a safe and supportive environment where children and young people can heal and thrive.
